Permits and licences for the business

Boat hire licensing is optional in Scotland. It only applies in a council area, or the part of it, where the council has passed a resolution to adopt it, so ask the council where you trade.

We have no list of which Scottish councils have adopted boat hire licensing, or of their conditions and minimum insurance amounts. Check with each council.
We have not checked Scottish Canals' rules for hire and business boats.
We could not copy clean wording of the Loch Lomond speed limits and Low Speed Activity Zones from the byelaws (the official PDF is a scan), so they are not listed. See the National Park Authority's byelaws and maps.
We found no rules for other Scottish lochs: the National Park Authority says Loch Lomond is the only loch in the Park with byelaws.
