What must a rental craft carry in Poland?
The required safety equipment for a rental SUP, kayak, jet ski, motorboat and sailboat — every line with the section of the act and a link to it. Then what to tell customers at check-out.
Law Rozporządzenie MTBiGM z dnia 28 lutego 2012 r. w sprawie bezpiecznego uprawiania żeglugi przez jachty morskie (t.j. Dz.U. 2016 poz. 1557)
Authority: Minister właściwy do spraw gospodarki morskiej; urzędy morskie
Covers sea yachts used for sport or recreation. Its equipment list binds commercial yachts (any paid use with up to 12 passengers, including charter with or without a skipper and paid training cruises), recreational yachts over 15 m and recreational yachts up to 15 m whose owner has had them inspected by the maritime office (yacht safety certificate, karta bezpieczeństwa); jet skis, small day craft and regatta yachts with a class certificate are excluded. The skipper’s duty to have lifejackets worn applies to every sea yacht.
Polish law lists equipment only for commercial yachts (paid trips, charter or paid training), yachts over 15 m and yachts up to 15 m inspected by the maritime office (karta bezpieczeństwa). For any other boat at sea the only rule is when lifejackets must be worn. In Poland the question “Has a technical inspection certificate” means a valid yacht safety certificate (karta bezpieczeństwa) from a maritime office inspection.

What our research found about rentals and commercial use:
- Paid use of a sea yacht — including charter with or without a skipper and paid training — makes it a commercial yacht, and the equipment annex then applies whatever its length. Those lines are under “Paid or commercial use”. Ustawa o bezpieczeństwie morskim art. 5 pkt 9; Rozp. jachty morskie § 2 ust. 1 · source · Rules checked 15 October 2026
General guidance: the lists below are the equipment rules for recreational craft. Hiring craft out is a business, and some countries add rules for rental or commercial craft, or ask for a permit. Before the season, check with Minister właściwy do spraw gospodarki morskiej; urzędy morskie or the local harbour master which rules apply to your fleet.
SUP board rental
Worked out for One paddler on a SUP board, no engine, by day.
Required 0
Poland’s equipment rules cover boats. A SUP board isn’t one, so no statutory carriage list applies — local bylaws, beach rules or wearing duties still may.
Inland Inland, a 2010 regulation (Dz.U. 2010 poz. 1423) lists equipment for inland craft, but recreational yachts are exempt from technical inspection and its lifejacket and lifebuoy rules apply to “crewed vessels”. Whether it binds a private recreational boat is not settled, so nothing is shown as law; ask the local inland navigation office (urząd żeglugi śródlądowej). Local rules (e.g. the Masurian lakes) were not checked.

GENERAL GUIDANCE- Fit the buoyancy aid and say whether wearing it is required here (see “Licence, lifejacket and charter rules”).
- Show the leash: coiled ankle leash on flat water, quick-release waist leash on rivers and in current.
- Point out the area they may use, the swimming zones and the boat traffic, on a map.
- Offshore wind: kneel or lie on the board, paddle across the wind towards the nearest shore — not back to base.
- Agree the return time and how you will contact them.
- How to call for help: phone in a waterproof pouch, the rescue number below, stay with the board.
Not a legal requirement — a starting point for your own briefing. Your insurer or local rules may ask for more.

- Quick-release waist leashMoving water demands a quick-release waist leash — an ankle leash in current is a hazard, not a safety device.
- Coiled ankle leashFlatwater. Your board is your biggest flotation device; stay attached to it.
- Buoyancy aid, 50 N (CE)A belt-pack inflatable is unobtrusive enough that people actually wear it.
- Floating waterproof phone pouchFloating, on you, not strapped to the board.
- Drysuit or thick wetsuitCold shock off a paddleboard is the classic early-season incident.
- Whistle on the vestCosts nothing, carries far.

GENERAL GUIDANCE- Fit the buoyancy aid; check the spraydeck release loop is outside and they can pull it.
- Capsize: stay with the kayak, hold on, swim it to shore or wait for help; show the paddle float if you supply one.
- Point out the area, the weirs, current or shipping lanes, and where they may land.
- Groups stay together; the strongest paddler last.

- Buoyancy aid, 50 N (CE)Worn the whole time. A buoyancy aid in the day hatch has saved nobody.

- SpraydeckA swamped cockpit ends the trip.
- Buoyancy bagsKeeps the boat recoverable after a capsize.
- Handheld VHF, floatingSea kayaking: waterproof handheld, on your person.

Licence, lifejacket and charter rules
For renters and skippers, from the authorities’ own texts. Checked 14 October 2026.
A patent (licence) is required for sailing yachts with a hull over 7.5 m or motor yachts over 10 kW. Under Art. 37a(6) of the Inland Navigation Act, a person qualified in another country may skipper in Poland within the scope of that country's document.
Rozporządzenie MSiT z 9.04.2013 w sprawie uprawiania turystyki wodnej (Dz.U. 2013 poz. 460) · Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, 'Przewodnik dla żeglarzy i armatorów jachtów' (gov.pl, v2.1, 1 Aug 2020)At sea it is a legal duty: the skipper of every sea yacht must make sure non-swimmers wear a personal flotation device at all times, and that everyone wears one or a safety harness at night, in difficult weather, or when the skipper judges there is a significant risk of capsizing. No wearing rule was found for inland waters.

No. It is a summary of the official texts, with a link to each one, to help you prepare. The operator and the skipper stay responsible for the equipment; when in doubt, the cited act and the national authority win.
