Registering the business

“send applications to the Tax Administration for the registrations that will be necessary for your company”

Permits to rent out watercraft

  • No separate licence to rent out boats was found. Renting is regulated directly in the Water Traffic Act (vesiliikennelaki 782/2019, § 6): who you may rent to and what you must hand over.

  • A crewed rental boat ("vuokravene": offered with crew, max 12 passengers, 2.5–24 m) used for income falls under the Maritime Code (merilaki); its skipper needs the charter-boat certificate (Traficom).

Using the beach, shore or quay

  • Repeated or permanent competitions, training or other events with motorised craft on the same water area need a permit from the municipal environmental protection authority. General beach/shore-use permits for rentals were not found (land-owner/municipality agreements; gap).

Your duties as an operator

  • Whoever rents out a craft must make sure it is safe for the water area and conditions at hand-over, and that the renter gets sufficient instruction for safe use (a legal briefing duty).
